The engineers should think about using magnets

Imagine them actually building houses and a whole new world in out space. Have to wear a space suit your whole life !!

If Mega Man X8 has taught me anything, is that having an orbital elevator sounds like a really really bad idea.
|
I already imagine a plane fying into it on the first day of installation
|
So rather that using a cable..... use a vented grid like tube that has buoyant hydrogen filled balloons attached to the outside surface at intervals to get the top of the tube into the extreme upper atmosphere. Then use magnetically accelerated payload carriers to boost into space.

😄 Ah, my old college professor was quoted here!

An 8 day elevator ride.... Woo.

Technically, spaceships still would be necessary even after the construction of a space elevator. The spaceships would dock on the top of the elevator to get people from orbit to their destinations further afield

""Some companies" in China and Japan are planning to complete construction by 2050" ... based on absolutely nothing. It's not gonna happen in my life time or in the foreseeable future.
As a scientist: Stop the space nonsense and focus on the problems on earth.

What if we would combine things, first start with a very wide base, from concrete and steel, it does not have to look good, maybe we would build 10 km up, from there ( where storms have little effect ) we could build up with inflatable parts, held in place by large electric fans or even further up with pressurised air from earth that is released at the right angle. And from there ( from around 50 km ) we could start with the cable, would this help ? since we have to reach 36.000 km ? the most stress at the cable would be at the middle but if the surface of the eath is "higher" the cable could be shorter, so there would be less stress?

I wonder how they'll do this with a flat earth
